Intuitive curiosity led me to yoga. On one of my teenage-escape-reality-with-books library treasure hunts, I discovered an illustrated guide to the poses for young adults. Reading this book planted a seed. I didn’t know it then, but my authentic self began to germinate. The spiritual elements of yoga were still taking root, and many years later I discovered the transformative power of pranayama and meditation. During one of the more difficult periods of my life, I found myself on my mat daily. The practice provided healing. I noticed the subtle benefits of the practice – the breath as a passageway to peace; the stillness as permission to release; and the movement as a rhythmic bond to life itself. Yoga flooded my life with contentment for the now and compassion for myself and others.
Yoga continues to teach me how to regulate my mind stuff and live peacefully in the present moment. Yoga cultivates my mind, body, and spirit connection. Through yoga, I learn again and again to let go of attachments to material things and personal attributes that separate me from others. I teach yoga to serve others; I teach yoga to share the knowledge of my teachers with future teachers.
