Sacral Chakra
Located in the reproductive area, the svadhisthana chakra connects to sexuality, intimacy, and procreation. When this chakra is in balance, it enables healthy and nurturing relationships with others, both romantic and otherwise. This chakra is out of balance when we repeat the same unhealthy partnership patterns, with toxic results.
Staying with an emotionally or physically abusive partner—and repeating the same relationship patterns with different people—is one extreme example of this imbalance. A similar pattern occurs when someone leaves a destructive relationship and immediately enters another. The person within the relationship may have changed, but the pattern remains the same. To leave behind these unhealthy patterns of samsara—repeating the same suffering—the individual addresses the underlying causes. By taking this first step, we move toward greater balance and harmony in our relationships.
One root cause of the svadhisthana chakra’s imbalance is our culture’s acceptance of rape, abuse, and slaughter of cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and other beings. The sexual manipulation of our fellow animals is common practice on a farm, and begins with the collection of semen from the males. The females are then artificially inseminated, unwillingly, to become pregnant and produce milk for human consumption. Cows, as well as other mammals, produce milk for the one reason: it is meant to nourish their own young. On farms, whether they are large industrial complexes or smaller “family-run” operations, the calves are taken away from their mothers as early as one day old. After giving birth, the mother cow lactates for about ten months. Then she is forced into artificial insemination again, and the cycle repeats. As for the calves themselves, the females are used for milk production, and eventually killed for meat. Very few male calves reach adulthood; they are primarily slaughtered for veal production.
When we choose to drink a glass of cow’s milk, consume the menstrual cycle of a chicken (their eggs), steal honey from bees, or consume the flesh of another creature, we directly participate in the sexual manipulation, rape, abuse, and slaughter of these beings. Once humans recognize how important it is to treat other beings in an empathetic and loving way, we modify our choices and embrace a 100% plant-based lifestyle. Our actions then allow for the removal of blockages and imbalances in svadhisthana chakra. This creates mutually beneficial relationships with all beings, and ensures healthy romantic partnerships.
